I’m working on something kind of big for my blog.  It’s going to take me a few days to have it all worked out, so stay tuned…..

Thrift It

It’s a good thing I have a love for vintage (70′s, 80′s 90′s) because since I have minimal funds for new clothes, I always seem to find the most amazing pieces in vintage thrift and second hand shops.  If you are going to go thrifting, I suggest you study the latest trends and go with an open mind and a lot of patience.  Keep your current wardrobe in consideration and when you spot something, imagine how you will work it into your wardrobe.  Friday, I went to a thrift store and found THE MOST amazing faux fur coat ($30), two blazers ($12 each) and a blouse ($5) for work.  The blouse, pictured below, has shoulder pads and I bought it specifically to get that “power shoulder” which seems to be a hot trend as of late.  The sequin jacket was a vintage find from a few months ago.  I love it so much!  I bought it oversized so it would have a slouchy look and it’s probably from some Grannies sequin holiday outfit circa 1987.  I really see no reason in spending over $200 on such a trendy item when I can skillfully search a second hand shop and find this one for ….. wait for it …… um ….$10.00!!  Also below is one of my favorite rings I discovered a few months ago as well.  It’s a 24k gold butterfly with cubic zirconia stones ($40).

Friday Update

friday love-fashion-gone-rogue

Friday took a long time to show up this week.  I’m going thrifting this weekend and I’m pretty excited about it.  There are a few things I’m looking for to add to the wardrobe, mainly a classic Grace Kelly-like cardigan, a boxy blazer and a blouse or two circa 1989-ish.  I hope to stay away from the sequins as I don’t need anymore to feed my addiction.  Wish me luck.  Also, I need to add the BeDazzler to my holiday wish list because if I had one, I could make these tights she is wearing in the above picture! { photo via fashiongonerogue }

58

There are 58 days left in the year.  Wow.  This is hard for me to fathom in a way, it just seems that the year continues to fly by, and the more I say how fast time is moving, the faster it seems to go!  It’s really exciting getting to Halloween, but once Halloween happens, it’s full speed ahead through the holidays.

I have a lot to accomplish by the end of the year, most important is applying to school and securing proper financial aid so I can start classes in January.  This scares me in a way because I spent about 4 hours (ok, not consecutive, there were many distractions) trying to compose three paragraphs about my motivation for and commitment to my educational goals.  I’m still not happy with what I have written.  Thank God I have very smart friends who can help!

Which brings me to another topic for my first November post.  November is the month we give thanks for our blessings, our family, our life, whatever.  Personally, I know many of you give thanks everyday, or at least try to, and I try to as well, however, November is the month we have a whole day off work to celebrate our thanks with our loved ones.  Today, I would like to give thanks to my smart friends, friends who I will inevitably be calling upon to help me when I am stuck on three measly paragraphs for a school assignment.

Thank you friends, you are wonderful!

Happy Halloween!

And happy birthday to my lovely younger sister Jennifer!!

How funny is this costume picture?  I wonder why my Mom made a 2 year old a scary clown?  Aren’t ALL clowns happy when you are 2??  Hilarious!

Kate Moss for Top Shop

Well, I wasn’t going to post anything till Halloween because I’m in a grumpy mood and working through some stuff, but I just can’t help but share Kate’s new pictures for her Top Shop holiday collection.  Goodness, this woman just keeps getting better and better.  AND I’m really loving that a few months ago I decided to grow out my bangs to be sweeping across my face rather then straight across because it looks like my idol had the same idea …  Damn, she is incredible.
